ouch.
I'm a little too sun kissed...
it was a hot and uncharacteristically dramatic weekend at the Pour House
Let me take you back to Saturday afternoon, enjoying 80 degree weather, drinking a cervesa, glancing at a good ole tabloid magazine amongst conversation when I realize that the deck connected to the floating cottage is floating to the other side of the house... a complete 180 degree rotation
See what had happened was...
A 'U bolt' {things are about to get real technical} came loose which released a chain that holds the whole place together. Fortunately the lively neighbors had a couple of regulars over and they began devising a plan to put the deck back in its place, using a pontoon boat to push it. By the time this debacle was over, we had three pontoons working together in-between disbursements of liquor and beer. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures... it was far too entertaining
{confession: the reason I don't have pictures is I was sort of afraid... see the real kind gentlemen that helped us out would technically be defined as 'red neck' and after being subjected to the way they spoke to one another I was slightly afraid to draw any attention to myself. I figured bringing out a large camera and snapping away was asking to be mocked}
It was a wild afternoon. Thankfully the repairs made kept us in one place for the remainder of the weekend.
On Sunday we were enjoying yet another warm sunny afternoon when a small boat carrying a man and dog floated closely by the Pour House. This defines excitement for three dogs. They exhibited this feeling by hopping around, barking, and coming right up to the edge of the deck.
then my dog jumped in.
yes. my surgical recovering water hating boxer hopped right in
{we all know she probably fell in, but for her sake and as not to create any more of a complex I will state that she 'jumped'}
Thank goodness lifeguard Gib was there to help her. His flight or fight instinct was in full force and he immediately jumped in right after her {into cold water... it may have been warm temps, but the water is not quite there yet}
It was a sight... as she realized she was in water, she began thrashing around, trying to use Gib's head as leverage to get out. After he saved her life, she hung around him for a while... like she knew things could have been a lot scarier if she had to rely on me.
Our relaxing afternoon continued until a Sheriff's helicopter began flying over head at rapid speeds, circling around, dipping low towards the water several times while Ann and I dramatically made up ideas of the potential situation. We still have no idea. We just know it was not normal.
The Pour House is a lot of fun each time we go out, but as you can tell from this post, for the most part it's a quiet place. No wonder I'm so tired... my relaxation was disturbed on multiple occasions.
Excuse me while I go reapply the aloe...

Kentucky gal
Kentucky has me smitten...
I knew it would be a great weekend based on the company I was keeping, but I didn't anticipate having such a crush on Kentucky...
the landscape is green and plush,
the towns are adorable,
and the horse racing,
oh, the horse racing.
Any event where hats are welcome and multiple men are dressed in seersucker suits...
Sign me up.
I didn't win big at the races, but anytime I can people watch in-between cheering for a mammal that I chose solely based on it's name...
winning.
On Saturday, we headed to Heaven Hill, where I experienced my first tour of a distillery and bourbon tasting.
Much different than a wine tasting... apparently there is a legal limit to the amount of tasting that you can do
{probably for good reason}
After educating ourselves in all things bourbon, our evening continued with a musical performance, Otis Gibbs & James McMurtry, two talented singer/songwriters.
We had a fantastic evening,
{how could you not with three generations of Schoenfelders and bourbon}
that ended with a trip to Applebee's for some much needed munching...
were you aware select Applebee's are open until 2 am on the weekends?...lifesaver
Sunday, we continued down the bourbon beat onto Buffalo Trace, a gorgeous distillery.
Thank You Kentucky
...until we meet again

the gig is up
according to bella
the 'gig' being the no running, jumping, stairs situation...
{technically the gig is not up until the Dr. says so after we see him on May 10}
she is starting to feel better
but it's hard to play when every move you make somebody is on your case
so she discovered a way to play without breaking any of the rules....
looks like fun, doesn't it?

Today I helped Invisible Fence set up for a show...
the best part?
I got to drive inside the expo center
don't laugh.
when you don't own a car and only drive a few weeks a year*
this is a big deal
*{except for the time when you move back in with your parents for 4 months to take care of your dog's hind leg and end up driving your mothers new car more often than she does}

that girl
eleven years ago,
to the day,
I participated in the AHS Class of 2001 Senior Skip Day
I recall telling my parents my rebellious plan of action and requested their assistance in pulling it off...
in other words I needed someone to call in for me
my mother took herself out of the game immediately,
stating that she 'would not lie' for me
after a conversation with my father I had a guardian on board
but in true TLS fashion I was expected to complete a 'to-do' list that morning to help prepare for my brothers upcoming Confirmation that weekend
when the day came I completed my to-do list early in the morn and headed out to join my fellow senior skippers...
but my story doesn't end here
on Monday,
for the first time,
I was called to Jennifer Lindeman, the AP's office.
She informed me that I would be serving detention,
the first in my educational career,
because helping with household chores was not a valid excuse to miss a school day.
apparently, my father wouldn't lie for me either
but here I am
eleven years later
saying thank you
for your guidance,
a lesson in a lie,
and for not making me
that girl
the one that never served a detention...

It's hard to leave her with this sad mug each morning...
... so I usually sing her a song
sometimes it's a cover with a change in lyrics
and others it's an original written by yours truly
Who doesn't like to start their morning with a song?

I was able to let out a deep sigh today,
when Matt informed me that his 'birthday box' was in his possession.
Since we won't be together for Matt's 30th birthday
{i am far more devastated by this than he is... i loves me a birthday}
I wanted to commemorate the occasion in some way
{besides the celebrations we will have when we are reunited}
I put together a 'birthday box' full of 29 gifts that remind me of Matt
a few of his favorite things
big and small
and when we celebrate together he will receive his 30th gift.
After a brief discussion about whether to open it now vs. his birthday
I was able to convince him that there were several goodies he should be able to enjoy while he was still a 20-something..
... like the massive amounts of candy, gushers, and fruit roll ups inside.
Some other highlights...
matt is a former dinosaur lover.
i just love this shirt.
you know my diet coke obsession.
mcquinn is much better about staying hydrated with H20...
a necessity in Cartagena
and now he has {my new favorite} water bottle to help him out with that
we missed Michael Scott saying adios last year
now Matt can watch it while he binges on starbursts, milk duds, sour patch kids, reeces pieces, beef jerky, hot tamales, and nibs
He even has a few more gifts wrapped up to open on cinco de mayo
Happy EARLY Birthday Matt....
and I hope you enjoy what's left of your twenties....
...17 days to be exact

Remember that one time I went to Nashville...
and face planted on the dance floor
which resulted in some busted & bruised knees...
I think these pictures explain it all
{tradition: exchanging 'did you knows...?'}
{blackhawks vs. predators}
{abe. the craziest part about this whole situation is that he thought we were the odd balls when we asked for a picture.
sir. kindly look in the mirror and realize that you are dressed up like abe lincoln in a bar. thanks.}
{i miss her}
{& so wish we got to see each other every weekend}
while we were in Nashville we celebrated Tyler's 25th birthday
he was fortunate enough to spend his birthday with three close friends
Gib, Ben, & Kevin
I have to say Tyler is one lucky 25 year old boy...
he has some amazing friends
plus
they're a lot of fun
battle wounds aside our weekend was pretty incredible...
to be in such an entertaining city
with such an eclectic group of fabulous people
i think it's one of those that can never be recreated,
but i'm oh so happy to have the memories
