friendship

One week ago, I awoke with that kind of anxious happiness you feel right before something really fabulous and special is going to happen...

reflections on a Colombian adventure

I thought I would have months to prepare for our departure.
I thought there would be time to pack slowly, count the weeks, and process the end of this journey.
But that's not how it came to a close and I am okay with that.

I've spent the last few days reminiscing and taking it all in, the last trip to the grocery store, last cab ride to the Old City, last walk around the bay.

From time to time a voice will creep up and make me wonder if I took advantage of this experience:

Did I immerse myself enough in the culture?
Did I take advantage of this opportunity?
Did I enjoy the view enough?

My answer is
Yes.
I did.

When I think back to the person I was three years ago when this adventure began, I realize truly how much I've grown through this experience.
I'm more confident, patient, cultured, and understanding.
Okay, patient might be stretching it.

But this experience has opened up my world.

I've had the opportunity to travel to places I've never dreamed of, push myself out of my comfort zone, and meet people from all over the world.

I've learned to communicate through body language and gestures, stood on top of the Andes Mountains, found geckos in my bedroom, and bathed in mud.

It truly has been an adventure.
but that adventure must come to an end.

While I am ready for our next chapter,
I am so thankful for the experiences and opportunities we have had.
After all, thats what brought us where we are today.

Our Colombian adventure will always have a special place in our hearts as it brought us to our greatest adventure yet...
parenthood.

So thank you Cartagena,
for the culture,
for the experience,
for the memories.

but it is the journey that matters,
in the end.

After meeting Grandma Sara and the gang for breakfast we made our way to the happiest place on Earth.
Disney World.
This was my second trip in 2012.
That makes me a pretty lucky 30 year old, if you ask me.

One of the most exciting parts of the day was trying out the new attraction, Enchanted Tales with Belle.  Belle is my favorite Disney princess and I am fairly sure I turned into a six year old when I stepped in line.  While waiting in line you see the Beast's castle and get to wander through Belle and her father Maurice's cottage.

After examining some of Maurice's inventions {most of them have to do with lamps, a tribute to Belle's love of reading} you enter a room with the wardrobe who comes alive and begins explaining that we are planning to surprise Belle by retelling the story of how she and the Beast fell in love.

Parts and props were handed out to several of the children in the group; knights, horses, Chip & Mrs. Potts, the Beast, Maurice, dishes, and artwork all practiced their parts.
Then we were lead into the library of the Beast's castle where we surprised Belle. Except in reality, Belle surprised us {okay maybe me} because it was really Belle.

After we made our acquaintance with Belle, the story telling began. Each child got to interact with her and retell the story of Beauty and the Beast.
I adored every second of it.

Then I fell even deeper.
Belle began to dance with the Beast, an adorable little boy who was literally falling deeper in love with her by the second. It was quite possibly the sweetest thing I've ever seen and may have left my eyes a little misty.

After enjoying a day full of magic & memories our evening ended with the holiday lights on the castle and a little bit of snow.
